Thanks to generous funding from the Beckman Institute, the Division, the Chen Institute, the Provost’s Office, and founding faculty members, the Neurotech Lab has been able to offer all of its services at no cost to you since its inception eight years ago. While these sources continue to cover the majority of our operating costs, economic reality forces us to introduce some fees for use of the Lab:
Use | Charge |
---|---|
Laser cutter | $35 per hour |
Waterjet cutter | $50 per hour |
FormLabs 3D printer | $5 per hour incl. material |
Markforged 3D printer | $5 per hour incl. material |
General machine shop use | $20 per hour |
Data analysis workshop | $20 per hour |
Machining by DAW | $75 per hour |
Electrical, mechanical, and optical engineering by DAW* | $60 per hour |
To be clear: these fees are still only a small fraction of the real operating costs of the Lab. Importantly, other uses of the Lab will remain free, including the use of our collection of small mechanical and electronics parts, borrowing hand tools, and, crucially, consulting with DAW.
While we have not arrived at this conclusion lightly, all of this is new to us as well. Most importantly, we do not want fees to be an impediment to your use of the Lab, so please reach out if these fees present a barrier to your project. As always, we also welcome other questions and comments.
We have created a simple web system for tracking usage. Please use the QR codes posted by the equipment to sign in and out.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continue to work with you on all of your exciting projects.
* This does not include initial consultation. There will be no charges for consultation and brief advice. To get a sense of how the new engineering fees might work out for your project, we have a page listing some recent projects and the time DAW worked on them.
